Grand Forest School Opening

On Wednesday 22nd January 2025 we celebrated the grand opening of our new Forest School. We were graced with the presence of the Mayor and Mayoress of Wirral attend to officially open the Forest School by cutting a ribbon and planting a commemorative tree to mark the occasion.
Adding to the festivities, Hannah Shakeshaft, a Park Ranger and Outdoor Education Trainer from Birkenhead Park, joined the celebration. She collaborated with the Mayor to plant an additional tree, symbolising the school’s dedication to sustainability and outdoor learning.
Miss Gill, Prenton Prep’s dedicated Forest School teacher, shared her enthusiasm for the initiative, highlighting its positive impact on students.
"The most important aspect of Forest School is that it is accessible to every child. It takes a holistic approach to child development, fostering self-esteem and confidence alongside practical skills. Scientific research has proven that it also enhances academic performance in the classroom. The children absolutely love their sessions and are always excited to participate. Since the sessions are child-led, they have the freedom to shape their own learning experiences, making each session unique and engaging. It is genuinely a pleasure to guide them on this journey of exploration and discovery."
Mr. Jones, Headteacher of Prenton Preparatory School, also shared his thoughts:
"We are thrilled to officially open our Forest School. This initiative reflects our commitment to providing a well-rounded education that goes beyond the classroom. It’s a privilege to offer our pupils the chance to learn and grow in such an inspiring environment."
Miss Gill organized an interactive session for the reception class and guests, allowing families to participate in engaging Forest School activities. The event showcased the school’s emphasis on fostering a love for the environment through hands-on learning experiences.
The Forest School initiative underscores Prenton Prep’s dedication to outdoor education, aiming to inspire curiosity, creativity, and environmental stewardship among its pupils.
